What the press date on your Oilury bottle means

Oilury Journal · October 2, 2026

Understand Oilury's press date, small-batch process and unfiltered oils, plus the product directions to check when your bottle arrives.

Oilury pressing process

The press date on an Oilury oil bottle tells you when the oil was extracted from its nut or seed. It is a specific point in the life of the product, and a useful place to begin when you read the bottle’s storage and freshness directions.

It does not mean the date you ordered, the day the package arrived or the first time you opened it. Keeping those dates separate makes the guidance easier to use.

Follow the oil from ingredient to bottle

Oilury begins with nuts and seeds rather than buying finished bulk oils to bottle under its name. We press the ingredients ourselves in small batches, using a custom-built press and slow, gentle pressure with no added heat.

The press uses 316L stainless steel where the oil comes into contact with the equipment. That material and the pressing approach are choices within our production process. The useful question for a customer is what happened to the oil from the raw ingredient onward.

After pressing, the oil is allowed to settle naturally. It is bottled without refining, bleaching, deodorizing or filtering, and refrigeration is part of how we protect the freshly pressed oil. The press date makes one part of that process visible on the bottle.

Read “unfiltered” as a process description

An unfiltered oil has not gone through a filtering step in Oilury’s process. Its appearance may include natural cloudiness or fine sediment. The current product descriptions explain that variation can also occur in color, aroma and flavor.

That means every bottle does not need to look as visually uniform as a heavily processed product to match its description. At the same time, appearance alone is not a substitute for the storage directions. A photograph cannot tell you everything about a bottle’s handling or freshness.

If you have a question about your bottle, keep the label and press date available when you contact Oilury. Those details are more useful than comparing it only with an unrelated image online.

The freshness period begins where the directions say it begins

For example, the current Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil directions say to use the oil within three months of its press date for best flavor and freshness. That period is not three new months from delivery or opening. The press date supplies the starting point.

Do not transfer that number automatically to every product in the shop. Check the page and label for the particular oil, especially if an order includes several different products. Beauty products also have their own directions; the care of a culinary bottle should not be assumed to describe every formula in the collection.

A useful routine when an oil arrives

  1. Identify the bottle. Check the product name so you use the correct directions.

  2. Read the press date. Notice whether the stated freshness period is measured from pressing.

  3. Read the storage instructions. Follow the product’s refrigeration and handling guidance.

  4. Choose a first use. For a culinary finishing oil, select a salad or prepared dish you plan to enjoy soon.

  5. Keep the directions available. Retain the label and return to the current product page when you need a reminder.

Use the process to make a practical choice

A description such as “cold-pressed” is most useful when a producer also explains its own method. Oilury’s process page describes the ingredient, the press, the absence of added heat, the steps after pressing and the date on the bottle. You can read those details before choosing.

For daily use, the next decision is simple: choose a bottle that fits your meals and follow its directions. A visible press date helps you plan; it is not a reason to buy more than you can enjoy within the recommended period.
